HARRISBURG, PA – Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor today announced the Department of the Auditor General received the highest rating possible from the National State Auditors Association (NSAA) on its system of quality control after an independent external peer review conducted by auditors from across the country.
“Since the start of my administration, we have worked to transform our department to ensure the best auditing practices are in place to protect taxpayer dollars,” Auditor General DeFoor said. “Our auditors were assessed by the best in the business and received the highest ranking possible, proving we are implementing the best approaches to auditing while maintaining the highest standards of integrity.”
In their report, the reviewers concluded that the Department’s system of quality control was suitably designed and complied with during the review period of April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024.
Through its Peer Review Program, NSAA conducts peer reviews of state auditors. The organization uses standards developed by the NSAA Peer Review Committee and approved by NSAA members. The Department’s review was conducted by auditors from various state audit organizations, as well as the US Department of Health and Human Services. Peer reviews are conducted every three years.
A system of quality control encompasses the Department’s organizational structure, the policies adopted, and procedures established to provide it with reasonable assurance of conforming, in all materials respects, to Government Auditing Standards, issued by the Comptroller General of the United States, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
