WEST CHESTER, PA – Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor today recognized Montgomery County resident Francisco Molina as the department’s first graduate of the Intern to Hire program, an initiative designed to provide career pathways through internships to students at Pennsylvania colleges and universities.
“It’s hard to believe that it was just 16 months ago that we first announced our Intern to Hire program,” Auditor General DeFoor said. “Today, we have 14 students in the program and West Chester University alumnus Francisco Molina is our first graduate. Francisco is now an auditor in our Bureau of County Audits, working full-time and on his path to a great career.”
“The Intern to Hire program is a way to learn from audit professionals,” Francisco Molina said. “During my time as an intern, I was able to gain experience by observing many different auditors and learning about the types of audits performed. Working for the Department of the Auditor General is a great opportunity for students who want to further their accounting and finance careers, and I’m excited to see what the department can do for future graduates.”
Auditor General DeFoor also announced the Intern to Hire program is expanding to include more areas of study.
“One of the best pieces of advice I ever got while job hunting was don’t just look at the job title, but read the entire job posting,” Auditor General DeFoor said. “We did the same thing in our department and looked beyond our job titles to see if more people would qualify for our careers. That’s why I’m excited to announce we are expanding Intern to Hire, and all our job opportunities, to students and graduates in nine areas of study.”
Upon acceptance as an intern, students must complete the following to be hired into a full-time position:
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared Bachelor’s degree program in accounting, business, data analytics, finance, economics, math, or a closely related field and successful completion of at least sixty (60) college credits at the time of the internship with a minimum 2.5 GPA; or
- Recent graduate (within 6 months of the internship commencement) of an Associate degree program* at an accredited college/university with an area of concentration in accounting, business, data analytics, finance, economics, math, or a closely related field and a minimum 2.5 GPA; or
- Current enrollment as a graduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared master’s or doctorate degree program in accounting, business, data analytics, finance, economics, math, or a closely related field and a minimum 2.5 GPA at the time of the internship; and
- Someone who is passionate about their area of focus and public service; who is detail-oriented with curiosity and a desire to learn.
*Interns in the Bureau of Information Technology Audits, the Bureau of Performance Audits, and the Bureau of State and Federal Audits must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program or higher at the start of the internship. Associate degree graduates are encouraged to apply for all other Bureau internship opportunities.
On Feb. 20, Auditor General DeFoor announced acceptance into the Intern to Hire program and most job opportunities were expanding to include associate degree graduates.
Previously, to be considered for a position at the Department of the Auditor General, candidates needed to hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and complete 12 credits of accounting as part of their coursework.
