About This Audit
A compliance audit was conducted for the Cranesville Volunteer Firemen’s Relief Association in Erie County, Pennsylvania, covering the period from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023. The audit aimed to determine adherence to relevant state laws, contracts, bylaws, and administrative procedures concerning state aid receipt and expenditure of relief association funds. While overall compliance was observed, an issue with unauthorized expenditures was noted. The association incorrectly spent $750 on training not delivered and $12 on Pennsylvania sales tax, contrary to the Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association Act (VFRA Act). The relief association is advised to seek reimbursement for these amounts and familiarize itself with Section 7416(f) of the VFRA Act to prevent future unauthorized expenses.
