The Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Mechanicsburg was evaluated under the Tobacco Settlement Act for potential payments for uncompensated care services in 2026. The evaluation determined that the facility was not eligible for payment under the extraordinary expense method for the 2026 Tobacco Settlement Payment Year due to no qualifying claims from the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. The hospital’s reporting of inpatient days and Medical Assistance days for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023 was accurate, except for a reporting error in Maryland-related out-of-state days. The Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council will guide the hospital in adjusting non-qualifying claims to maintain accuracy in the database. Facilities can submit additional claims by October 31, 2025, if believed to qualify as self-pay claims. The report has been distributed to relevant officials, and further instructions regarding adjustments will follow.
