YORK, PA – Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor today joined York College President Dr. Thomas Burns, State Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) and State Representative Carol Hill-Evans (D-York) to launch an unprecedented tuition discount program for Department of the Auditor General employees and their dependents to attend York College.
“Today, I am excited to announce a first-of-its kind, common-sense partnership with York College,” Auditor General DeFoor said. “Our employees are now eligible for a 15% discount on certain master’s level programs at York College and, for the first time in our department’s history, their dependents are eligible for an academic scholarship of a minimum of $10,000 each year, and one-time grants totaling $1,500. Together, we are creating life-changing opportunities for our employees and their families by making higher education more affordable.”

Auditor General DeFoor also recognized Cochranville, Pa.-native Cade Ham as the Department’s first Intern to Hire from York College. Ham majored in mathematics at York College and was one of the first interns with a major other than accounting or IT. He currently works as an Auditor 1 in the Bureau of County Audits.
“Cade, you are going to do great things at our department,” Auditor General DeFoor said. “You are key in helping to transform our department and we are so thankful that you entered the program and are on our team.”
The Department also offers tuition discount programs for employees through PennWest University and Rutgers University. In the PennWest program, employees receive a 20% discount on all areas of study in the undergraduate and graduate programs offered through the Global Online program. The Rutgers program is offered through a partnership with the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers, and Treasurers (NASACT). Employees can receive a 25% discount on courses offered through the Online Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting Program and the Online Certificate in Government Financial Management Program. The discount is offered in the form of a scholarship.
The Intern to Hire program provides paid internships that can lead to full-time employment for rising college juniors, seniors and graduate level students, as well as community college graduates who received their degree in the last six months. Internships are available year-round and are paid and operate on a hybrid (remote and in-person) or full-time telework schedule.
Earlier this year, the program was expanded to include the following majors: accounting; business; data analytics; finance; economics; math or a closely related field. Additionally, recent graduates (within 6 months of the internship commencement) of an Associate degree program at an accredited college/university with an area of concentration in accounting, business, data analytics, finance, economics, math, or a closely related field and a minimum 2.5 GPA were added to the program.
Interns in the Bureau of Information Technology Audits, the Bureau of Performance Audits, and the Bureau of State and Federal Audits must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program or higher at the start of the internship.
