PA Department of the Auditor General

HARRISBURG (Sept. 10, 2021) – Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor today released the following statement regarding the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks:

“We will never forget how Tuesday, September 11, 2001, started out as beautiful early autumn morning and ended changing the course of our nation and Commonwealth’s history. We saw heroes run towards towering buildings in New York and Washington, D.C., and heroes sacrifice their lives in a field in Somerset County to prevent further carnage.

“The type of heroism we saw on that day carries on each day by Pennsylvania’s first responders and service members who run toward danger and risk their lives to save others.  In the 20 years since 9/11, they have kept us safe from terrorists at home and abroad.

“On behalf of the Department of the Auditor General, I want to thank all of our heroes – our veterans; law enforcement, fire and emergency medical professionals; members of the military; health care professionals; public servants; and their families. We are eternally grateful for your sacrifice on that day and in the 20 years since.”
