About This Audit

The compliance audit of the Crafton Firefighters Relief Fund, conducted by the Department of the Auditor General, covered the period from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2023. The audit aimed to verify compliance with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s laws concerning the receipt and expenditure of state aid by the fund. The audit found that, overall, the fund complied with the laws, except for a $444 unauthorized expenditure on EMS supplies, which was not permitted by the Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association Act. The relief association was unaware of the restriction and has since been reimbursed. The report emphasizes that the relief association should familiarize themselves with authorized expenditure guidelines. The audit’s findings were discussed with the management, who agreed with the observations and took corrective action. This audit highlights necessary improvements in financial oversight and compliance for future audits.
