Edwardsville Borough Firemen’s Pension Plan – Luzerne County – Audit Period Ended December 31, 2023

A compliance audit of the Edwardsville Borough Firemen’s Pension Plan was conducted, based on the Municipal Pension Plan Funding Standard and Recovery Act, to determine adherence to relevant state laws and procedures. The audit focused on securing evidence to assess compliance with laws and managing funds properly. It was found that the borough improperly amended the pension plan’s governing ordinance by resolution instead of an ordinance, which could lead to inconsistent benefit payments. The borough agreed with the findings and acted to correct this with a proper ordinance, which will be reviewed in the next audit. The audit verified the proper deposit and authorization of funds from 2018 to 2023, examining state aid, employer, and employee contributions, and found overall compliance except for the noted amendment issue. The cooperation from borough officials was acknowledged.
