About This Audit
The Marklesburg Volunteer Fireman’s Relief Association underwent a compliance audit by the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General for the period January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023. The audit aimed to assess whether the association adhered to relevant state laws, contracts, and procedures regarding state aid and fund usage. Conducted under the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s legal frameworks, the Auditor’s review found the association largely compliant. The relief association, primarily financed through municipal allocations and insurance premiums, is tasked with managing funds prudently, as guided by the Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association Act. The audit revealed total cash holdings of $44,866 and expenditures of $18,971, excluding an unauthorized but negligible sales tax payment of $149 over the two years. The audit’s findings, discussed with the relief association’s management, underscored the responsibility of the officers to ensure proper financial record-keeping and legal compliance. The cooperative engagement of the relief association was appreciated.
