About This Audit

A compliance audit was conducted on The Upper Augusta Volunteer Fire Co. Fireman’s Relief Association in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, covering January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023. The audit aimed to verify corrective actions from prior findings and whether the association complied with state laws and guidelines regarding state aid and fund expenditures. The audit concluded that the association addressed previous issues and generally complied with regulations, but unauthorized expenditures totaling $372 were noted. These involved payments not compliant with the Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association Act, including sales tax and a bond policy premium for an affiliated fire company. The association officials were unaware these expenditures were unauthorized. Corrective recommendations were discussed with management. The audit ensures funds are used appropriately to support volunteer firefighting efforts.
