About This Audit

The compliance audit of The Volunteer Firemen’s Relief Association of Blairsville, covering January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023, determined that the association substantially adhered to relevant state laws, contracts, bylaws, and procedures regarding state aid management and fund expenditure, except for one issue. The audit, conducted under Pennsylvania state authority, found that in 2023, the association received $2,263 in state aid from Black Lick Township, which was incorrectly deposited into a fire company account rather than a relief association account, delaying the funds for nearly a year. The error limited fund availability for expenses and investments. The association has acknowledged the error and plans to implement internal controls for timely deposits. Recommendations include improvements in internal control procedures to ensure accurate fund management. Compliance will be reassessed in the next audit. The audit findings have been communicated to relevant officials and municipalities.
