Right to Know Law Requests
Pennsylvania’s Right to Know Law (RTKL) gives people access to the public records of government agencies.
The information below is specific to submitting a RTKL request to the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General, not for obtaining records from another governmental entity. We cannot provide records that are in the possession of other agencies.
Question vs. Record Request
If you decide to file a RTKL request with the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General, make sure you are seeking a record and not an answer to a question. If you are seeking an answer to a question, submit it to the department via our Contact Us form.
Find Audits
You do not need to formally submit a RTKL request to access our audits; they are publicly accessible via our Audits webpage.
Resources
Visit Pennsylvania’s Office of Open Records (OOR) website for a list of answers to frequently asked questions regarding the RTKL.
The Department of the Auditor General cannot produce public records that belong to other government agencies. Pennsylvania’s OOR maintains a database of Agency Open Records Officer (AORO) contact information for every registered agency in the Commonwealth – use the AORO database to contact the correct individual to request records from other agencies.
